Welcome to another TTT! This week’s topic focuses on reading instead of books, and asks why I love reading! What an easy but fun topic! This week has been up and down as far as emotions for me go. I am still in a contemplative state in my life and have been applying for a bunch of jobs and have been extremely busy with college work. I am finally down to the last ten classes of my undergrad!
I have finally decided that I am not going to move at least until I finish my undergrad degree in the spring and until I start graduate school because I owe it to myself to walk at graduation in the spring... Since it has taken me years and a lot of hard work to finally finish my degree and unfortunately I have to stick out the summer in Phoenix to be able to do that..... I owe it to myself to celebrate something that took a lot of dedication to get.
Here are the top ten reasons why I love reading so much:
1. Escaping reality:
I love being able to escape this world and go someplace new. Being able to go to fantasy worlds or different times is so relaxing to me but also therapeutic. Especially with how crazy this current world and time period is. I love looking into the lives of other characters and people.
2. Insomnia sucks and reading helps me fall asleep
I cannot sleep at night until I read. I have horrible insomnia and reading really does help me to calm down and unwind from the day that I have had. It allows me to decompress and relax. However, I will admit that if I get into a really good chapter of my book or end on a cliffhanger sometimes I will be up way later because I need to know what happens in my book or it's hard to put down a really good book.
3. Reading makes you a better writer
Some of the best advice that I got from an author was if you want to write that reading more books helps you to be a better writer. That the more you read the better your writing gets and I truly believe that! Writing and reading have always been huge passions of mine since I was a very little kid. When you read, your brain automatically absorbs good writing techniques, skills, and vocabulary. You will even unconsciously copy the writing styles of the many books that held your attention. Plus, I truly believe that reading a good book also enhances your vocabulary and spelling. I mean why else would schools make you read so much?
4. I love the smell of books and the beautiful covers
There is nothing like the smell of books. It's literally one of my favorite smells ever. Plus, all of those beautiful covers! Nothing compares.
When the world is so depressing, scary, and sad these days reading about stories that end in happily ever afters or good endings make me feel more hopeful and positive about my own life in general. It allows me to forget about all the chaos and depressing situations the world has come to these days! In general, it makes me less afraid to live in this big scary world.
9. It helps me to believe that true love is possible
Reading helps me to believe that romance is not dead. That there are still decent human beings out there that all people have a true love just waiting around the corner. It helps me to believe that love and romance are not dead. Reading allows me to be hopeful in the love and romance department but also reminds me of what I deserve when it comes to love and dating and to never settle!
10. Reading helps me to believe that all things are possible and to never give up
Reading teaches me to be brave and persevere even when all hope is lost. Certain characters in books never give up and to me, that is very inspiring. Books inspire me all the time. There is always hope no matter how much you think there isn't. There is always a chance of a good outcome. You have to keep trying and push yourself to be the best version of yourself. You never know what is right around the corner if you just keep trying. Books taught me this. That even when all hope is lost and you think evil will prevail it doesn't. Good always trumps evil. In the darkness, there is still light. Light will always win against darkness. Lord of The Rings quotes says it the best. There is always hope.
“May it be a light to you in dark places, when all other lights go out.”
“That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo… and it’s worth fighting for.” – Sam
“Frodo: I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.
Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”“The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater.”

Yes, so much yes for helping believing in true love & impossible things! Also sometimes just warms my heart that there IS good people in the world.
ReplyDeleteJust the presence of books make you feel like home - and book smell really is the best thing! wether it's old books or absolutely new!
Hah- man I wish my insomnia would be helped by reading.. 🤣 Although I always read mainly before bed (because distractions in daytime..), it doesn't always makes me sleepy; fantasy reading tend to do the opposite actually ahah

Yeah, I have never been a huge fantasy reader myself. It's actually the genre I read the least.
DeleteI thought I was the only one who loved the smell of books. Great reasons to read.
ReplyDeleteNah, I feel like most book lovers love this and the feel of books alone <3
DeleteI love the smell of books too. Thanks for sharing your reason.
ReplyDeleteReading makes you a better writer for sure!
ReplyDeleteSorry you have insomnia. I struggle with it, too.

Insomnia is no fun. I am sorry you struggle with it too. Some nights are better than others.
DeleteI'm so sorry that you have to spend the summer in Phoenix. I do, too (well, in Mesa). It's awful, isn't it? At least if you're still here in the winter, you'll get some lovely weather. That's what I have to tell myself every year...
ReplyDeleteI love that reading gives you so much hope. That's really a beautiful thing.
Happy TTT!
Yeah, at least we have winter time but it doesn't stay nice for long. Most of the year is just hot or tolerable. However, I am always hot and don't mind the cold so it's just bad period for me.
DeleteSuch a nice list. I especially liked #10. Reading helps me to believe that all things are possible and to never give up. This one is so true!!
ReplyDeleteI am glad that you enjoyed the list. It actually took me a while to really think about why I love reading so much because I wanted this list to be as comprehensive as possible.
DeleteI love your reasons!

ReplyDeleteHere's my list!
Thank you so much for stopping by! I am glad you liked the list :)
DeleteThese are great reasons to love reading, and you express them so well. I should have included insomnia in my list, and the effect that reading has on writing well.
ReplyDeleteI have a bit of overlap with you, though, I did not include how it helps me unwind before bed. A great way to quiet my brain.
ReplyDeleteI love believing in the impossible in books! But reading doesn't usually put me to sleep - I just stay up way too late reading. :-)
