Sometimes it is the one who loves you who hurts you the most. Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up— she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true. Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place. As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan — her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.
A marriage that turns into a domestic violence situation.
Going into It Ends With Us, I was a little weary of reading a domestic violence novel. It's hard for me to read about abuse in general. However, this book turned out to be nothing like I thought it would be but in a very good way. The story is very gripping and I instantly became attached to the characters.

Honestly, I thought I would hate the husband/abuser, Ryle, but I actually had somewhat sympathy towards him. Nothing excuses his abuse but it was nice to see a completely new side to abuse within a marriage. This was one powerful book. Colleen Hoover outdid herself in this story. I loved her writing style. It Ends With Us is easily my favorite Colleen Hoover book that I have read. Normally, I don't gravitate towards her books. It Ends With Us was one happy surprise from start to finish. This book is anything but corny and what's to be expected of the normal Hoover book. It's so much more powerful and thought-provoking.

Often, I found myself thinking about what I would do in the main character's situation. Both males and females would benefit from reading this story. Marriage is a lot of hard work and sometimes takes sacrifices. The story displays many life lessons beautifully. PLEASE PLEASE READ THE AUTHOR'S NOTE AT THE END. That little section made this book all the more powerful. The story is going to stay with me for a while.

The only downside to the book is the occasional cheesy parts. I am not always huge into romance. Also, the ending turned out to be semi-predictable. Other than that it's an incredible book. I felt every heartbreak right along with the main character Lily. This is one bold novel that hits you right in the heart.
