Two girls are forced into the woods at gunpoint. One runs for her life. One is left behind.
Twenty-eight years ago, Charlotte and Samantha Quinn's happy small-town family life was torn apart by a terrifying attack on their family home. It left their mother dead. It left their father—Pikeville's notorious defense attorney—devastated. And it left the family fractured beyond repair, consumed by secrets from that terrible night. Twenty-eight years later, Charlotte has followed in her father's footsteps to become a lawyer herself—the ideal good daughter. But when violence comes to Pikeville again, and a shocking tragedy leaves the whole town traumatized, Charlotte is plunged into a nightmare. Not only is she the first witness on the scene, but it's a case that unleashes the terrible memories she's spent so long trying to suppress--because the shocking truth about the crime that destroyed her family nearly thirty years ago won't stay buried forever. Packed with twists and turns, brimming with emotion and heart, The Good Daughter is fiction at its most thrilling.
A girl haunted by her past.
From a young age both sisters Charlotte and Samantha are haunted by a traumatic event. Witnessing the murder of their mother has haunted their lives. Both bring the event of that night into their adult lives. The girls have major trust issues because of it. This whole book was very intense and I felt like this family could not catch a break. Almost to the point where all the tragedies these girls went through almost seemed unrealistic. I was surprised by the plot twist so I will give the book that. Otherwise, it was an average read for me.

This is a book where I am not in the majority of 4 or 5-star reads. I just am very picky with my thrillers or mysteries because I can predict them pretty well. I just didn't like the main character that much in this novel so it became an average read for me. I also got mad that the two main sisters drifted apart from each other after both experiencing such a traumatic event together. I felt like the sisters should have been brought closer together because of it. Either way, I read this one pretty fast and I am glad I picked it up. I will give Karin Slaughter another chance.
