My mental health has not been the greatest this year. COVID has really affected me and isolating is never good for a person's mental health especially not for someone who struggles with depression like I do. This year, I have gone through more loss than normal and it has not been easy... then, throw in living alone during a worldwide pandemic. GOSH, IT REALLY DOES SUCK! People who do not normally have mental health issues are struggling worldwide. On days like these, I wonder if I will ever be able to go outside again without a mask and not be afraid?

I miss the library and going shopping. I miss going to church. I miss it all.

I had a harder mental health day today... which in return has inspired this post. I cried....... and honestly that helped. For a long time, I would not allow myself to cry or feel vulnerable. It isn't an easy thing to do, but once you can freely let yourself feel all the feelings, it is a very powerful and rewarding feeling. Crying really does help you to feel better. It doesn't make you weak it makes you stronger.

To top it off, my ex (ugh) texted me. It brought up feelings that I did not want to deal with. Immediately, I went for a mile-long walk around my Grandmother's neighborhood and the fresh air and time to myself really helped to calm myself down.

When you have a bad mental health day here is a list of things you can do to feel better:

1. Go for a walk
  • getting fresh air always helps me to feel better. Plus, endorphins from walking instantly will help to boost your mood.

2. Snuggle your fur babies
  • I do not know what I would do without my animals this year. They have helped me in more ways than one. "The simple act of petting animals releases an automatic relaxation response. Humans interacting with animals have found that petting the animal promoted the release of serotonin, prolactin, and oxytocin- all hormones that can play a part in elevating moods."

3. Take a hot bath
  • Have a personal spa or self-care session. These really help me. The warm water of the tub always helps to calm me down.

4. If you are a girl paint your nails, do your hair, put on some makeup.
  • Self-care will boost your self-esteem/confidence.

5. Snuggle up with a good book
  • Reading always instantly cheers me up.

6. Watch a funny tv show or movie
  • Watch something that can easily make you laugh or boost your mood.

7. Talk to someone close to you
  • Leaning on someone else for support always helps me. This will also help you to know that you are not alone.

8. Listen to music
  • Music is so healing no matter the genre or if it is happy or sad. I do not know what I would do without music.

9. Journal/write about your feelings
  • I always feel better when I get my feelings out on paper or out into the universe.... like this blog post. It helps you to sort out all of those feelings you are having inside your head... it helps me to feel saner.

10. Nap
  • Having a bad mental health day can be exhausting and nothing is better than getting some good sleep and resetting your brain/shutting off your brain.

11. Cry
  • Crying automatically makes me feel better and is a very natural and healing thing to do. Feel all those feelings... don't bottle them up inside. It is okay to feel them and cry. Plus, it is healthy to do so.

12. Play some video games
  • I have really been leaning on my video games as a way of escape the last couple of months and it honestly helps a lot.

13. Eat some comfort food
  • Chocolate always helps me.

14. Get outside/go to a park
  • Being out in the sunshine can really boost anyone's mood. Getting enough vitamin D from the sun is very important when it comes to mood/depression.

15. Shop therapy
  • Try not to spend money outside of your budget but treating yourself to something you have wanted for a while does help boost your mood.
