My birthday was back in January and your girl turned 29 this year! Here's to the last year in my 20s... Where did the time go? Take me back to the 90s, please. This book tag is all about the 90s. One of the best decades. Future children will never know what it's like to grow up without the internet. In a way, life was much easier and more carefree.

I found this tag via @toyangi

THE RULES
  1. Please, please, please steal this tag and spread it around!  I only ask that you link it back to The Literary Phoenix so that I can see everyone’s answers! (NO LONGER ACTIVE)
  2. Freeze tag was all the rage in the 90s. Tag someone (or many) you think would have fun with this! I tag anyone who wants to do this tag.
  3. Have fun!
POKEMON:
A GBA game and trading card game where you battled pocket monsters and strived to catch them all.  Back in the day, there were only 150 Pokemon.
The author you need every book from.
I need every book from Penelope Ward, Vi Keeland, Lauren Blakely, and Taylor Jenkins Reid. Please and thank you.
AIM
AOL Instant Messaging – how 90s kids communicated with their friends after school before everyone had a cell phone. I still remember asking questions to Smarterchild lol. My first aim name was (so embarrassing) mrscute5
A book that connected you with your best friend.
  • Most people in my life do not read. However, my boyfriend (best friend) reads and we always connect by talking about graphic novels and comic books. Recently, he has gotten into reading audiobooks so of course, I have been giving him a lot of book recommendations. He is going to venture into Harry Potter finally. Lately, we have been bonding over Harry Potter because both of us are playing the new Hogwarts Legacy video game.

FURBY
Creepy needy robots you could teach to talk and take care of. Somehow these made a comeback? I remember crying as a kid when mine died for the first time. They were like Gizmo from Gremlins.
A book that seemed like a good idea but was actually a monster.
  • Every book I have read has been a good idea so...........
N’SYNC
90s quintessential boy band. You may have heard of Justin Timberlake? I remember wanting to see them in concert so bad.
A book you hated to say Bye, Bye, Bye to.
SLIMED!
Getting green slime thrown on you, courtesy of the show Figure it Out.  Nickelodeon was a staple for every 90s kid. Who also could forget the big red couch as a kid?! I know I wanted to sit on it as a kid.

A book everyone loved but you hated.
  • Don't hate me.... but recently I read Every Summer After by Carley Fortune and I didn't really care for it. It actually made me mad at the main character several times.

OREGON TRAIL
90s computer game you could usually play at school, which was great.  It taught us people used to die a lot of gruesome, messy deaths. I used to love this game.
A book that made you wish you died of dysentery.
  • Um, dying of dysentery would be such a horrible death and I would never want that. However, in terms of boredom, I was so bored reading The Thousandth Floor by Katharine McGee.

MIXTAPE/CD
Back before everyone had music on their phones (remember, we didn’t have cell phones!) folks would rip their CDs and make mixes for each other. I used Limewire for all the music that I didn't have or own once I got a computer in the house for the first time.
3 books you recommend to anyone, anywhere, no matter what.
  1. To Kill A Mocking Bird by Harper Lee
  2. Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren
  3. The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls

DIAL-UP INTERNET
Kids of the future will never know what it is like to have to wait to go online and listen to the dial-up sound of the internet. When you went online no one could call you on your landline at home until you logged off. And don't forget that classic "you've got mail" sound!

A book that took FOR FREAKING EVER to read.
  • It by Stephen King. It's massive.

KENAN THOMPSON

That book that you see referenced everywhere and is in everything, but that’s okay because it’s awesome.
  • Pretty much any classic but you also see Harry Potter everywhere.

THUMBS UP, SEVEN UP
A game where most of the class closed their eyes and seven people tapped someone’s thumb and you had to guess who did it without peeking. I was the best at this game.
Book where you peeked just REAL quick at the ending because you don’t like guessing games.
  • I never peak and want to spoil endings.... so none.

DUNKAROOS

These were basically just Teddy Grahams dipped in frosting or chocolate but oh so good!
Your ideal bookish snack.
  • I don't really eat while reading but if I had to pick ummmm popcorn.

SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK
Collections of short stories that would scare any sensible kid!  Plus, there were illustrations…
A book that kept you up all night.
  • It by Stephen King. I hate clowns.

BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY
Basically, the coolest thing you got to do in science class was watch Bill Nye. I got to see him in person in college. He came to my school for a psychics lecture and spoke. My inner child screamed.
A book that taught you something new.
Too many to list. Gosh, I feel like in every single book I read I learn something new or learn something new about myself. Reading makes me a better person inside and out.

This tag is open to everyone who wants to do it! Gosh, this tag made me feel old.
    xoxo,
